Laser Head Services

These services focus on the laser cutting head, the part of the machine most exposed to wear, crashes and contamination. Laser Ray Tools repairs, rebuilds and tests head assemblies to keep cuts stable and downtime short.

What We Do To Laser Cutting Heads

Laser head work is about getting the cutting end of the machine back to a proper working condition, not just changing one worn part and hoping for the best. We handle fibre and CO2 laser cutting heads for workshops, job shops, signage plants and metal fabricators who need reliable output every day.

Our team strips the head, checks the body, internal passages and optics path, then replaces damaged parts where needed. That may include nozzles, lenses, protective windows, sensor rings and ceramic holders. We also inspect for contamination, heat marks, collision damage and misalignment that can cause poor cuts, burrs or unstable pierce performance.

  • Diagnosis, parts supply and return to service testing

When A Head Needs Attention

Some head problems show up fast after a crash. Others creep in slowly through wear, dust, fumes and poor gas quality. If your cutter starts leaving taper, dross, inconsistent edge quality or repeated nozzle strikes, it is time to inspect the head before the fault spreads further into the machine.

We often see problems after a sheet lifts, a nozzle seat gets damaged, or the operator notices the beam is no longer centred properly. In coastal areas, humidity can also add contamination risk, while in busy inland shops the pressure is often production pace and not enough cleaning time. A small fault now can become an expensive repair later, so it pays to check early and fix it properly, not twice.

How We Restore Performance

Each job starts with strip and inspection. We then measure wear, check alignment, clean internal surfaces and test the gas path. If parts are beyond serviceable condition, we replace them with the correct components and verify fit before reassembly.

After repair, the head is set up for pressure testing and return to service testing. That means we check for leaks, stable gas flow and consistent operation under working conditions. If the head has suffered collision damage, we also assess the mounting points and any hidden distortion that could affect cut quality later on.

  • Lens replacement and window replacement
  • Sensor ring service and ceramic holder change

Bench Work Or On-Site Support

Some heads are best repaired in the workshop where we can open them fully, measure correctly and test them in stages. Others need on-site attention because the machine is down and production cannot wait. We support both approaches across Boksburg, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Vanderbijlpark, Durban and Cape Town, with service also available for Germiston and Kempton Park area customers.

On-site work is useful for diagnosis, setup checks and urgent fault finding when the machine is still in place. Bench work is better for deeper repair, contamination removal and parts replacement. We will advise which route makes more sense based on the fault, the machine condition and how quickly you need it back online.

Choosing The Right Service For The Fault

If you are not sure what the laser head needs, start with the symptom. A bad cut may point to a lens issue, a worn nozzle or a contamination problem. Repeated misfires may point to alignment, pressure or sensor issues. A visible crash mark usually means the head needs a proper strip and inspection, because hidden damage is common.

Our service team, led by Sibusiso Mthembu, will help match the repair to the fault so you are not buying parts you do not need. That practical approach matters for busy shops trying to keep scrap down and machines productive during load-shedding windows or short production runs.

  • Choose bench repair for deeper faults, contamination or crash damage
  • Choose on-site support for urgent checks and production stoppages
  • Choose parts replacement only after inspection confirms wear
  • Choose a full return to service test when the machine must go back into daily use

Why South African Workshops Call Us

Laser Ray Tools is based in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni and supports South African fabricators who need straight answers and practical repair work. Our team includes technicians and support staff who deal with laser heads every week, from strip down to final testing.

Customers contact us through the enquiry form on our contact page and we take it from there. Whether you run a signage plant in Pretoria, a fabrication shop in Vanderbijlpark or a busy cutting line in Durban, the aim is the same: get the head working properly and reduce downtime. That way production keeps moving and the machine does not sit idle longer than it should.

Questions we get asked

What laser head problems can you repair?

We repair collision damage, worn nozzle seats, lens and window issues, contamination faults, sensor ring problems, ceramic holder wear, alignment faults and gas path issues on fibre and CO2 cutting heads.

Do you work on site as well as in the workshop?

Yes. We offer on-site support for diagnosis and urgent fault finding, and bench repair for deeper work, cleaning, parts replacement and testing.

How do I know whether the head needs repair or replacement?

Start with the symptom and the visible condition of the head. If there has been a crash, repeated poor cuts or signs of contamination, we inspect it properly and advise the best repair path after checking the damage.
